Black Bear Book Award at BCS
The Black Bear Book Award Program has started at Belgrade Central School and things are a little different this year. Your friendly BCS librarians’ goal is to offer a more inclusive program and encourage a school-wide culture of reading. We have the same stellar list of 50 new titles (give or take) ranging from graphic novels to nonfiction and they are flying out of the library doors.
This year we have, with student input, set a reading goal for all 3rd, 4th and 5th-grade students of 350 books and a friendly competition between grade levels has started. After a month voluntary reading, around 130 exit slips have been collected which means our BCS students have read at least 130 books! The Belgrade Public Library kindly purchases a small selection of BBBA titles each year to supplement our program and broaden access to these books.
