Destination Mars

Fourth and fifth grade students at Belgrade Central School recently participated in a virtual field trip called “Destination Mars.” The missions were run by staff members from the Challenger Learning Center of Maine, located in Bangor. Belgrade Central School qualified for this learning opportunity through a NASA CAAT Grant. The interactive, one hour, live virtual field trips required students to work in four teams (Conditions, Geology, Navigation, and Rover) to identify which one of the Red Planet’s moons, Deimos or Phobos, to build a base on. Student teams selected which moon was best by analyzing three sets of data collected by rovers on Deimos and Phobos. The goal was to send a spacecraft to the surface of Mars and back in the fastest and safest way possible. It was a memorable and engaging learning experience for all! #WeAreRSU18
