BCS GT Tackles Rube Goldberg Machines
Elementary GT students have become analogies experts during their latest unit. They participated in a WordMasters analogies challenge, designed and built Rube Goldberg machines, and tied it all together through writing that connected the motions of their machines to events in a novel.
At BCS fourth and fifth graders connected the book Sweep to their machines, which were designed to either pour a bowl of cereal or open a book.
Rube Goldberg was an engineer who drew elaborate, complicated machines to accomplish simple tasks, but never built them. The students’ machines took that one step further into real life.
